275 Jahre Grünau

Grünau celebrates 275 years since its founding with rich historical milestones.

Grünau celebrates its 275th anniversary, marking its founding in March 1749 by three Palatines along the Dahme River, originally named "Grüne Aue." The settlement thrived, gaining a railway station in 1866 and a steamboat pier, transforming it into a popular excursion spot. By the early 20th century, infrastructure expanded with the first waterworks in 1905 and gas/electricity networks by 1908, solidifying Grünau's reputation as a suburban villa in Berlin's southeast. Renowned post-war resident Stefan Heym further enriched its cultural heritage. A comprehensive timeline by Helgunde Hentschel captures Grünau's evolution.
